Summer exercise? Meh.

Well, I would like to do some reviews of my many yoga/pilates/tai chi DVDs, but as I mentioned - it is damn hot here and I can't seem to find a cool time in which I feel like exercising.

Oh, I know some out there are saying that I should just force myself whether I feel like it or not, but I have a feeling that is the quickest way to totally make me hate it and I don't want to hate it.

Basically, I feel motivated during the day (right now it is too hot even with AC to exercise).  Once the sun goes down I am only motivated to do things I enjoy doing - like writing, reading, watching movies and so on.  Things that don't take any physical motivation.

Aside from that - how did I gain two pounds over night?  Is my scale broken?  Seriously, I didn't pig out or anything, but when I weighed myself today I weighed 2 lbs more than yesterday.  Am I retaining water?  I totally don't know, but I hope that tomorrow that will have disappeared from the scale.

  1. It's baffling, same thing happens to me. A few things I do to help me stay on the right path and not freak out:
    1. Fuck the scale. I weigh myself maybe once every 5 or 6 weeks. I do the weight gain/loss chart thingie on the Wii -- I don't have it tell me how much I weigh, but only if I've gained or not. Little graph shows your progress. Also, I go by how I feel, and how my clothes fit. Right now if I'm doing awesome, a 12 fits quite nice. I go up and down from 12 -14ish. As long as I'm not above 14 I'm happy. Hey, it's all relative. I used to be a 20 at my highest! Of course, I am working on getting much less than a 12, but I'm not going to kill myself or make myself feel bad.

    2. We're chicks. We bloat, retain water, our hormones have minds of their own, -- so I just try to get all zen like with those changes.

    3. Me, I'm post menopause and 57. I'm not playing the perky skinny happy female game. I'm doing my best, and think about health, and feeling good, and give myself brownie points for wanting to do the right thing.

    4. I forgive myself when I do the wrong thing.

    5. Gluten free diet has done wonders for me, but I know it's not for everyone. It's hard sometimes, but the outcome is so worth it.

    6. Lots of water, lots of green tea.

Lesley you are so right about that! For myself, I mix it up. I do yoga most everyday, just because it feels good. Sometimes I don't want to, if I really really don't want to, I just don't. I walk a lot -- a lot -- use weights, would love to swim more but it's hard to fit it in ... just do something, anything, and somedays, you do have to give yourself a break.

  2. I wish I could not weigh myself, but the longest I have been able to go is about 2 days. Too obsessive.

I don't think I could go gluten free, but I do try to limit it.

I drink lots of water, but not green tea lately because I like it as hot tea and it has been so hot that I don't feel like drinking hot beverages. Maybe I will start taking green tea pills, I have some.

When it cools down (hopefully soon) I will get back to pilates and yoga. Right now just doing the daily dog walk, she gives me no choice. :-D

    Thanks for the advice!

  3. When it gets hot, I brew green tea (and use all kinds, I'll mix a peach black tea with a green, etc.) and then pour it into bottles when it cools a bit. put it in the fridge, and I have cold brewed tea to drink, love it. I'll add lemon or lime slices or flavor sometimes, even mix it with juice, just try different things. But usually I just drnk the cold tea. Also, natural sweeteners like stevia, etc. if need be.

  4. I really like the Trader Joe's Jasmine Pearls Green Tea hot w/ lemon. Possibly I would like it cold as well, so I may give it a try. Taste wise, I am not a big fan of green tea, except for that particular kind.

  5. BTW, that stevia stuff is really OK? I don't take sweetener in my tea, but still use sugar in my coffee.
